The EOB oil booster pump uses a heated booster oil to create high-speed vapour jets that entrain and compress gas, giving very high pumping speed in the medium-to-high vacuum range where a diffusion pump would be too slow and a mechanical pump too weak. Modular heating tubes can be replaced without shutting the system down, and the design improves the extraction ratio over earlier versions. It is used in vacuum smelting, coating and space-simulation systems that can tolerate some oil. Pumping speeds reach up to 13,000 L/s.
